Forest School December 2018

Forest School - December 2018

We’ve had a wonderful start to the new school year at Forest School and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the children take enthusiastic ownership of the site.
They have hammered and sawn and whittled with increasing skill, creating bird tables, hedgehog houses, trapezes, tree houses, chairs, dens, crazy golf and cricket sets. They have learnt to make and manage a fire and have toasted marshmallows, popcorn, fruit glazed with sugar and cinnamon, campfire pizzas and made Roman honey biscuits.

With the abundance of Autumn, they have made ink from both oak galls and from the inkcap mushrooms and discovered many other fungi inhabiting the site. They have swung from every possible branch, made slides and tyre swings and even found time to occasionally relax in the hammocks. They have also been visited by squirrels, foxes, badgers and many birds, as well as a few brave governors!

Next term we will have a weekend to take down the old shed, should anyone like to help and be looking for donations of old pans for the mud kitchen. Thanks goes out to the PTA for sourcing logs for seating and to West Kent College, Tonbridge for keeping us supplied with offcuts for firewood.

Finally, it has been an absolute delight to see the children grow in confidence, resilience, strength and belief in the value of their own ideas and creativity. We look forward to seeing what we’ll be blessed with in the New Year, whether wildlife, weather or lots of mud!

The Inn Spectors

Year 4 have had a great time rehearsing for their school production of 'The Inn Spectors'. From scarily serious inspectors that have come to inspect all the inns in Bethlehem, to a really rather hilarious donkey who would like nothing more than a foot spa after his treacherous journey - this play has it all! We hope that you had as much fun watching as we had performing!

Year 4 Team.
