Courier report on Chris Burkes Mural & head teachers retirement

Courier on 5th March 2010.

Article on Chris Burkes fabulous artwork and head teachers retirement.

A top cartoonist, Chris Burke, has created a 17 foot mural to mark the retirement of St. James’ Junior School head teacher Paul Chandler this term.

Chris said
“I decided to show a child’s progression through the school, from the first day through to the last, with some of the regular events of the school year in between”.

The result is a vivid journey leaping from annual Book Week- with a nod to Harry Potter – Greek Day and the Christmas pantomime, with the artist’s own two sons, Nat and Ben, both of whom were pupils at the school, making a guest appearance too.

The article then went on to pay tribute to the “Head who took school to top did it all his way”.
Head teacher Paul Chandler is retiring from the school at Easter after 15 years.

Full report can be seen in the Courier www.thisiskent.co.uk

Chris Burke’s Picture - Life at St. James' Junior School.

Chris Burke, our artist in residence and internationally renowned illustrator unveiled a wonderful painting of Life at St. James’ Junior School. The painting depicts the school life of a child from the day they arrive at St. James’ to the day they fondly wave goodbye. It covers a whole range of activities, including special days, clubs and school journeys.

The picture is designed to be a timeless memory of St. James’ and will be a permanent display for all to enjoy for many years to come.

We would like to express our gratitude to Chris for his inspiration, and for the time he has given to bring our vision to life.

Please do take time to look at the gallery of pictures. Chris took photos of his work through the various stages and it is wonderful to see the initial sketches come to life when colour is added.

- 28 February 2010 11:20 - GeneralCarol Bagshaw, Special Educational Needs Consultant Retires.

Many will have been in touch with Carol over the years. She’s been our Special Needs Consultant for the last 8 years and before that she was our Special Needs Co-ordinator. In total she has been with the school for 17 years.

Carol will be greatly missed especially, by staff and by those whose children have been helped through their school life at St. James’.

Staff wished her well with a retirement tea and presented her with gifts, a pen and case and a recipe book with the staff each providing a page with their favourite recipe for her.

We all wish her a long and happy retirement.
